first editing exercise

A good thing about my little short film is that it involves the audience as it introduces two opposing characters one that is in a class and seems isolated from everyone else, and one that could show a threat to the guy in the class. Doing this draws in the audience as they are already wondering who this mysterious smoker is.

One thing I could improve is the zoom on the cigarette I could centralise it more and zoom in directly on the cigarette this would be something to improve in post production.
Another thing I could improve on is the shot of me reading the book, it would be better if I focused on my face instead of the book. The reason for this is because when it's focused on the book it shuts off the audience from the character. 

2- We started the exercise by learning the controls of the camera, this included things such as the settings how to zoom and how to set up the tripod. We then learnt about the exposure triangle, this is a group of three things that make the shot either light or dark. You can also use the exposure triangle to create a shallow depth of field, this is when the subject is in focus and the background is more and more blurry as it gets further away. To create a shallow depth of field you need to use a low appeture which opens up the hole wider which lets more light in. This creates a blurry background and draws in the audience. I already knew how to do this because of photography.

We then learnt how to import footage onto the Mac and organise it into folders. I already knew how to do this as I use a Mac daily.

After that we learnt how to use adobe premiere pro on the Macs. This included basic skills such as cutting clips, bins and ins and out points. we then learnt how to put in a soundtrack and learnt where to get them from. which I already knew from previous edits I have done. We then learn how to use transitions and titles which were both new to me as I used to just use photoshop to make titles. we also learnt how to use bins here is an example.

I done this course last year but at level 2 and enjoyed it. I learnt how to use premiere pro in those lessons as we used it to create a tea advert. I have learnt a few new editing techniques the year which I'm happy to say I will be using again. the skills I learnt this year were things such as how to use bins how to add in titles and how to use the keyboard short cuts to do quick edits, the keyboard shortcuts I learnt were the timeline arrows to jump from one end to another quickly and the arrows to jump from cut to cut I also used the frame by frame arrows I also learnt that the I and o keys are very helpful to do edits before the clip is on your timeline.
